Project Name: Elementary School 16
Location: Issaquah, Washington
Completed: 2021 (est.)
Owner: Issaquah School District
Size: 80,000 sf
About: CAG and Issaquah School District have been working closely with local zoning and building departments to provide a new school in an established residential community on a steep, wooded site with wetlands, a community storm drainage facility, easements and a historic house, while also adding a school entrance onto a busy commuter road. Due to the school district’s rapidly expanding student population, this school was designed and submitted for permit in six months. To accommodate the entire student population on a restricted site, Elementary 16 will be three stories, with a grand central circulating stair, which has become a model design feature for the Issaquah School District. Unifying this large campus, the Commons and Gym—a focal point for staff, students and parent connections—have large, folding partitions to open the public spaces to one another.
