Clark Elementary School Modernization

About: Responding to the changing needs of Issaquah School District, CAG designed a conversion of a middle school into three separate schools: Clark Elementary (K-6) and Gibson EK (9-12) and the Academy for Community Transition (ACT). To meet increased capacity at Clark Elementary School, a classroom program expansion and a new gymnasium were developed as a three-story addition—the first for Issaquah School District—in order to fit on the constrained site. The classroom wing was designed for flexible teaching, including acoustical doors between classrooms, corridor breakout areas, water/drinking fountains in all the classrooms and on floor break-out activity areas. The school mascot was integrated throughout the school in colorful and vibrant balcony guardrails, which has become a model design for the Issaquah School District.
