Cornerstone designed and managed a series of renovations and upgrade studies for a senior care community, encompassing both targeted interior remodels and broader residential amenity improvements. Recent work included the renovation of public-facing spaces such as a new central entry lobby and reception area with upgraded wall and floor finishes and specialty lighting, coordination of new lobby bistro kitchen equipment, full restroom replacement, and associated HVAC, plumbing, and electrical modifications. All work was executed within an occupied facility and included carefully phased asbestos abatement to minimize disruption to residents and staff.
In parallel, Cornerstone led light renovations to the facility’s kitchen, coordinating closely with MEP engineers, the owner’s kitchen consultant, and the Authority Having Jurisdiction, including the Department of Health. The renovated kitchen was designed to support the production of approximately 120 meals, five times per day, ensuring operational efficiency while meeting regulatory requirements.
Additionally, Cornerstone, in collaboration with Hultz, was tasked with identifying long-term upgrade strategies for residential amenities within the Watson Building’s c.1961 and c.1964 wings, which presented limited above-ceiling access for new ducting and building systems. The team researched and proposed design solutions to upgrade all residential units—senior housing, memory care, and assisted living—with energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, while also introducing washer/dryer and dishwasher capabilities in senior housing units. Solutions were carefully developed to minimize resident disruption, avoid installations within the courtyard and primary entrance areas, and were organized into four phased implementation options to support flexibility and long-term planning.
